Problem: Well, I wiped off an old partition to install Ubuntu (9.10 Karmic Koala) Linux yesterday, and I'm liking it so far but I still am stuck in 800 x 600 resolution, which is terrible especially for this monitor. System: Dell Dimension C521, AMD 64 Athlon, other OS = Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (OEM), 1GB DDR2 RAM with 160GB Harddrive in 3 partitions. NVidia GeForce 6150 LE Graphics Card So anyway, I guess I'm supposed to get a message about display drivers when I first run Ubuntu. This didn't happen for me, and 800 x 600 is the highest resolution I can pick in Settings.

Ubuntu does not recognize my monitor, it shows up as 'Unknown'. I wanted to try Envy which would install the drivers for me, but the package wasn't in the Universe repository and when I used the command-line install function, I returned an error saying that the package was not found. I already tried nVidia drivers from their website, for both Linux x32 and x64 (I don't know which one I have), but both returned an error that gEdit could not find the encoding! Help With: 1) Finding the right driver OR 2) Installing Envy (where is it?:( OR 3) How to get the nVidia drivers to run. Thanks in advance, - George (gdea73).
